Our Philosophy of Care

Dementia care from the heart

A home is more than a building; it’s the place of family. It’s the place where people feel most at ease. But what happens when home is not the best place for someone, when the effects of dementia prove too much to manage?

Richmond Care Home isn’t just a retirement home; it’s a family of 16 women living with dementia. Each one of their families have returned the love they’ve received by making sure their mom or sister or wife is being cared as they would – with kindness, love, freshly cooked food, fun, but also with some things they cannot provide right now, like specialized dementia care.

We believe that dementia is not the person and that despite it, there is still much living to do. As a not for profit, our entire focus is on care. Our staff are specially trained to manage the effects of dementia by connecting with your loved one as a person while managing the symptoms of the disease to maintain personal independence and foster community.

We are proud of our home and believe it is an extension of your family, and your family is an extension of ours.

Our Promise

To our residents

You will be treated with respect and kindness. Our focus will be on you – who you are, what you like and how you want to be treated. We will support you through your dementia journey by overseeing aspects of your dementia care while helping you live each day to the fullest, connected to your family and your friends at Richmond Care Home.

To our families

We understand how important your loved one is to you, and we are honoured you have chosen us to continue your care for her. Her health, wellness, happiness and dignity are what guide us in every decision we make in our home.

What we believe

We believe that families are calling upon us to care for their loved one with the same kindness and love that they gave her. We believe that while families do their best, when dealing with dementia the care their loved one requires can exceed their ability. This is where our staff come in, providing round-the-clock person-centred specialized
dementia care from the heart.

“My mom has been a resident at Carefor for almost a year now. I am very impressed with how well she has settled in. The staff are all very kind and caring, as well as professional. I love the small intimate size of this home. It truly allows for individualized care, unlike some of the large and perhaps more fancy care homes. I would recommend Carefor Richmond to any family who has a mother /grandmother, etc, they adore.”

“Love it….My Mom has been a quest for almost 6 years. Have no idea what we would have done without the beautiful ladies and their special care. Can’t imagine life without Richmond Care Home.”
