Free virtual concert series running throughout the summer aimed to engage individuals living with dementia amid COVID-19
June 29, 2020 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
OTTAWA—Carefor Health & Community Services and The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County are proud to present the Living Room Live! Concert Series.
This free virtual concert put on by local musicians aims to engage individuals living with dementia in our communities during this challenging time.
Starting with a Canada Day Kick-off event on June 30, and held every two weeks until the end of September, individuals living with dementia and their loved ones have the chance to enjoy an hour of music from our supportive local community.
This concert series will feature songs from a variety of musical styles that will lift spirits and stimulate memory recall.
Both Carefor and The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County are well aware of the challenges facing individuals living with dementia and their caregivers, especially during this heightened time of social isolation. As we understand the great need of a support system for these families, we are continuing to find methods of engagement with the things they love most.
Music has always worked as a powerful form of therapy for those living with dementia, and we hope during this time families can view these live concerts safely in the comfort of their home.
“Music is what brings us together,” says Robin Meyers, Carefor’s Director of Community Support Services and Personal Support Services. “We imagine people dancing in their living rooms.”
“I hope that everyone has a great time and is able to find some joy during this unprecedented time,” adds Dean Henderson, Director of Client Experience, Education and Innovation at The Dementia Society of Ottawa and Renfrew County.
