Carefor is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Housekeeper to join our team at Cornwall Hospice. This role is essential in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for residents, families, and staff. The successful candidate will perform general housekeeping and light maintenance duties, contributing to a home-like atmosphere that supports the comfort and dignity of our residents.

Job Description
  • What You Will Do:

    Housekeeping & Maintenance

    • Maintain cleanliness in common areas, resident rooms, washrooms, and staff spaces according to organizational policies and infection control standards.
    • Perform light maintenance tasks such as replacing light bulbs, minor plumbing repairs, and groundskeeping.
    • Collect and dispose of waste in accordance with WHMIS and hazardous materials regulations.
    • Monitor and replenish housekeeping supplies as needed.
    • Prepare rooms for new residents and clean vacated rooms.

    Resident Support

    • Report any unusual resident behavior or observations to the RN/RPN/PSW on duty.
    • Engage respectfully and compassionately with residents and their families.

    Communication & Teamwork

    • Communicate clearly and courteously with residents, families, and staff.
    • Collaborate effectively with team members and contribute to a positive work environment.
    • Report concerns or complaints promptly to the Care Coordinator.

    Quality & Risk Management

    • Follow all policies and procedures to maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety.
    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and provide feedback on processes and products.
    • Report incidents involving residents in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Qualifications

    Education & Experience

    • Secondary school education preferred.
    • 2–3 years of housekeeping experience, preferably in healthcare or hospital settings.
    • Experience with light maintenance tasks is an asset.

    Skills & Competencies

    • Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently.
    • Basic computer skills (e.g., MS Outlook, MS Word).
    • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
    • Physical ability to perform duties including lifting, bending, squatting, pushing/pulling carts, and kneeling.

  • What We Have to Offer You

    The hiring range for this position is $35,061.00 to $40,150.50 per year, which reflects the expected starting salary based on qualifications and experience. Please note, this is not the full salary range for the position. Opportunities for growth within the full salary range are available in alignment with organizational policies and performance.

    Salary: $17.98 – $20.59 per hour
