The Opportunity: Physiotherapy Assistant- Permanent

The Physiotherapy Assistant (PTA) provides clinical care for clients under the direction and supervision of the Physiotherapist and Occupational Therapist. The PTA works to actively rehabilitate each client to achieve his/her maximum functional level through planned and supervised therapeutic programs. The PTA is responsible for monitoring the progress of clients and reporting to the physiotherapist. The PTA/OTA may perform associated functions to support service delivery such as stocking supplies or maintaining equipment. The PTA ensures the safety, comfort, and privacy of clients. As a member of a team, the PTA participates in discipline-specific and interdisciplinary activities that are directed towards a client-centered care environment and that contribute to operational efficiency, and professional and program development.

The PTA may work autonomously in a variety of settings including the community delivering services to clients and families by following the treatment plan of the Physiotherapist. Thorough knowledge of the scope of practice of a PTA and good judgment are critical in this role.

Job Description
  • What You Will Do:
    • Assist physiotherapists with the provision of individual and group therapeutic exercise programs
    • Learn programs of care from the Physiotherapist and provide care to individual clients based on the frequency specified in the program of care
    • Lead a group of clients in a specified group exercise program at the frequency and time specified by the Physiotherapist
    • Monitor the client’s ability and accommodate any changes from baseline. Report back to the Physiotherapist the need to change/adjust the program.
    • Assist physiotherapists with the provision of application and removal of ice, heat and various therapeutic modalities
    • Understand and follow all directions and specifics related to the application of modalities
    • Ensure client safety at all times
    • Monitor client’s progress and report back to the Physiotherapist
    • Complete written reports as required
  • Qualifications
    • Two Year Physiotherapy Assistant Diploma from an institution recognized by the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario or an undergraduate degree in human kinetics.
    • Minimum of 2 years recent related experience in adult physical medicine gained in a community, rehabilitation, or long-term care setting.
    • Skills:
    • Demonstrated understanding of the principles of rehabilitation and the rehabilitation process
    • Knowledge of anatomy, common injuries, and diseases, basic stretching and strengthening exercises
    • Possesses strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills
    • Physical ability to do job duties as assigned; demonstrated knowledge of body mechanics
    • Demonstrated client-centered attitude and commitment to client-centered care
    • Bilingual (English/French) preferred

  • What You Will Do:

  • Qualifications

    We are looking for individuals who:

    • Are capable of making a commitment of at least 15 hours/week
    • Are flexible to accommodate day shifts from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or evening shifts from 3:00 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. and commit to shifts every second weekend (both Saturday and Sunday). To support planning, we will always make your schedule available two weeks in advance.

    The Personal Support Worker is a critical role within our communities as it positively affects the lives of clients and ignites the warmth of human connection.
