Under the supervision of the Building Services Manager, the Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the on-going operations of the facilities, related equipment, property, and environmental services. The Supervisor ensures buildings, grounds, and equipment are maintained in compliance with internal and external regulations and legislative requirements, and that they are operated in a cost effective manner. The supervisor responds to resident/client/tenant requests and needs and actively participates in creating a clean and safe environment for clients and staff.

Job Description
  • What You Will Do:
    • Assists the Manager in directing staff, preparing work schedules, and assigning duties within the maintenance, janitorial and housekeeping departments
    • Assists with employee relations functions such as managing attendance, performance appraisals, disciplinary action, and performance management within a unionized and non-unionize environment
    • Implements and enforces departmental standards, policies, and procedures in keeping with regulations and best practices in accordance with building, electrical, fire code etc.
    • Provides leadership and hands-on assistance to operate, maintain, repair, and renovate the structural, mechanical, and non-mechanical systems and equipment to ensure a clean, safe, and well maintained building and grounds
    • Assists with project management and supervisory support for large construction and renovation projects
    • Assists the Manager in coordinating and managing service contracts and ensures fulfillment of contractual obligations
    • Supports a preventative and responsive maintenance program for the facilities and equipment at Carefor sites in Pembroke and Renfrew County
    • Responds promptly to resident and client complaints and requests that fall within the function of the department
    • Assists in maintaining inventory and cost records
    • Works with the Manager to update and maintain Fire Safety plans, Health and Safety programs, and related equipment and assists in organizing fire drills, evacuations, and equipment testing
    • Maintains records of all inspections, preventative maintenance and repairs performed
    • Seeks appropriate resources in the community to assist in the development and delivery of services, e.g. City Officials, Fire Department, Building and Equipment Contractors and Sub trades
    • Prepares estimates for repairs, renovations, and departmental work plans to submit to Manager for budget approval
    • Ensures floor plans are kept-up-to date and posted appropriately
    • Assumes role of after-hours on-call on a rotational basis
    • Functions and reports in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety legislation, regulations, and Carefor Health and Safety policies and procedures
    • Reports the absence of or defect in any equipment or protective device of which he/she is aware and which may endanger him/herself or another worker
    • Reports any violations of the Health and Safety Act or the regulations, or the existence of any hazard
    • Ensures all workplace incidents are reported in a timely manner in accordance with legislation, and Carefor policies and procedures for workplace injuries and incidents
    • Active member of the Joint Occupational Health and Safety Committee
    • Other duties as assigned

  • Qualifications
    • Degree, Diploma or Certification in construction or project management or certified trade
    • An acceptable combination of education and experience may also be considered
    • Certified as per the OH&S Act or willing to become certified
    • Valid driver’s license and availability of vehicle
    • Minimum 3+ years’ relevant, practical and hands-on experience in the mechanical operations and overall maintenance of a medium to large size institutional facility
    • Strong assessment and troubleshooting ability
    • Experience supervising staff and utilizing conflict resolution practices
    • Experience working in a unionized environment
    • Experience managing service contracts and supervising external trades
    • Ability to interpret and apply legislation, regulations, contracts and policies and procedures
    • Ability to work in enclosed spaces
    • Broad understanding of principles, practices, building code regulations and procedures as they relate to facilities management and Health and Safety
    • Strong written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
    • Leadership and planning skills
    • Ability to work collaboratively as a member of an interdisciplinary team
    • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • Ability to lift up to 50lbs
    • Ability to bend, sit, stand, kneel for short periods of time

    Job Types:Full-Time (75 hours bi-weekly or 1.0 FTE)

    Salary: $32.46 – $44.63 / hour or $63,297.00 – $87,028.50 / year

    Flexible Language Requirement: French not required
