Reporting to the Director Client Care, Personal Support Services & Ottawa Inner C, the Manager of Personal Support Services is responsible for the general management and support of the cost-effective development, implementation, administration, and evaluation of services offered within the Personal Support Services department. They will ensure that all services are offered within a quality/risk management framework and will understand and promote the importance of values, ethics, and vision by guiding individuals and groups towards developing, sharing and contributing to the organization’s goals.

Job Description
  • What You Will Do:

    Managerial/ Supervisory Responsibilities:

    • Provides direction, support, and guidance to the PSS Supervisors
    • Coaches, leads, trains, and supports staff in attaining individual and operational performance objectives through effective team building and communication techniques
    • Performs conflict resolution as required
    • Conducts performance appraisals and encourages employee development for members of the department
    • Sets program and department objectives in accordance with Carefor goals and resources
    • Builds consensus and commitment with internal and external stakeholders to meet the needs of the program and organization
    • Ensures all activities performed by the department are in accordance with established legal, regulatory, and organizational policies and procedures
    • Anticipates, responds and adapts leadership style to different demands and uses change management processes to benefit the program
    • Understands the different roles of staff to the program and facilitates the orientation and training processes to assist them in their roles
    • Develops strategic alliances and partnerships within the community to promote the Personal Support Program and services
    • Collects and evaluates client/customer and market information on the Personal Support Program and uses this information in evidence-based decision making to improve the program and services offered

    Financial Responsibilities:

    • Participates in the budgeting process for the Personal Support Services Department

    Health and Safety Responsibilities:

    • Monitors and performs all functions and activities within the scope of available resources, program standards, Carefor policies & procedures, Health and Safety Standards, and all other relevant legislation
    • Participates in health and safety training including WHMIS and applies this knowledge in the workplace
    • Monitors employee obedience to Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and performs all management duties and responsibilities as described in Occupational Health and Safety Legislation and Carefor Policies & Procedures

    Operational and Organizational Responsibilities:

    • Assists in monitoring, measuring, and evaluating the Quality Management framework for the programs and services
    • Understands, promotes, and communicates the value, purpose, and relationship of the Personal Support Services program to Carefor
    • Identifies and analyzes trends and issues facing the program/department
    • Works collaboratively with other members of the management team to achieve organizational goals and objectives
    • Monitors and/or performs human resource management activities for employees including recruitment, selection, health and safety, continuing education, performance development and performance appraisals
    • Participates in the on-call roster for management

  • Qualifications

    Qualifications, Experience, Credentials

    • Registered Nurse with a BScN
    • Masters in nursing, Business Administration, or Health Administration considered an asset
    • Minimum 5 years’ experience working in a community-based service organization with at least 3 years’ experience in a supervisory role.
    • Experience in community health preferred
    • Experience in external relations, labour relations, negotiating, contracts, and program management
    • Familiarity with the quality management approach and experience with quality management initiative
    • Knowledge of local and provincial health care services
    • Ability to prepare and manage budgets, programs, policies, procedures, staff resources, and schedules
    • Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written), and an understanding of effective communication tools
    • Experience and/or training in conflict resolution and in developing/facilitating staff training
    • Ability to work in a stressful environment and manage multiple priorities
    • Highly developed computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Suite and other programs
    • Effective interpersonal, problem solving and decision-making skills
    • Ability to accept and facilitate change
    • Bilingualism (French/English) considered an asset

    Salary: $74,782.50 – $107,503.50
