May 29, 2024 – EASTERN ONTARIO – The Carefor Staff Bursaries have been a long-standing tradition at Carefor to support staff in the advancement of their skills and careers. “Every business, organization or agency has something that makes it special, for Carefor, it is our people. Our staff are our greatest asset,” says Carefor President & CEO Steve Perry. “While their education may be unique to them, it makes them better people. And when one person improves, we all improve.”
“What we’ve seen throughout the applications is a desire not just for yourselves but for your clients,” says Carefor Board Chair, John MacKenzie. “These bursaries are for you, but we all know that our clients are an important beneficiary. Your commitment to giving them the best care possible is what makes Carefor such a well-respected agency in all the programs, services and regions we operate.”
The Carefor Bursaries are a product of donor support. This year’s bursaries were funded by E. Neville Ward and his family in honour of his late mother Kathleen Elizabeth Ward who was a schoolteacher and received care from Carefor nurses prior to her passing. As an act of gratitude for the care his mother received, Mr. Ward created these bursaries to be given to Carefor employees attending or registered in an education program and who have committed to providing home health care.
The remaining seven bursaries were funded this year by Carefor donor Claude Chapdelaine whose husband received care from Carefor’s Personal Support Services team prior to his passing, in addition to Claude herself receiving care from our nursing team.
Next year’s bursary program will be launched in December with winners being announced in the spring of 2025.
