 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Carefor Granted Viceregal Patronage by Governor General of Canada

October 11, 2023 (Ottawa) Carefor Health & Community Services is very excited to announce that in September 2023, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon, Governor General of Canada, granted Viceregal Patronage to Carefor.  The Governor General extends patronage to organizations aligned with the roles and responsibilities of the Governor General in recognition of their outstanding contributions to society.

Carefor’s connection to the office of the Governor General is in their roots. In 1897, Lady Aberdeen, the wife of then Governor General, John Campbell Hamilton-Gordon, Earl of Aberdeen, founded the Victorian Order of Nurses in honour of Queen Victoria’s Diamond Jubilee. In 2006, VON’s Ottawa, Renfrew County and Eastern Counties’ offices became Carefor Health & Community Services.

“We are grateful to Her Excellency the Right Honourable Mary Simon for her patronage,” says CEO Steve Perry. “We see it as Her Excellency’s understanding of the value of our work for the people of Eastern Ontario, and her commitment to supporting community health. Her patronage brings us full circle back to our roots and we look forward to continuing our work with her support.”

The Governor General plays an important role in promoting national identity by supporting and promoting Canadian values. At Carefor, our work is aligned with Her Excellency’s priorities in areas including reconciliation, diversity and inclusion. As an agency which is comprised of 1,400 staff and supports 20,000 seniors and people with disabilities in Eastern Ontario each year, Carefor’s care knows no bounds.
