Manifesto

Who can you count on when you need help? Is there someone you know you can rely on to help you through a hard time, or to just share a laugh with?

For nearly 20,000 seniors and people with disabilities in Eastern Ontario each year, Carefor is that person. Our staff work throughout our communities giving care and support in homes, through community programs and in our retirement homes and our hospice.

We’re who you can count on when life’s circumstances change. When you want to be independent but need some extra help around the home. When have a medical appointment but need a ride. When you want to meet new people or find new ways to be active. And when you are well enough to be home, but not well enough to be alone.

Carefor is here.

Carefor began in 1897 as the founding chapter of the Victorian Order of Nurses. Today our goal is still the same: to meet our clients’ health needs for high-quality home care and community support services.

Carefor is a leader in caring for people—the largest provider of health, homecare and community services in Eastern Ontario. As a not-for-profit charity we are made by our community, for our community.

  • Where are there volunteer opportunities with Carefor?

There are volunteer opportunities in the communities we serve across Eastern Ontario. Our main offices are in Pembroke, Ottawa and Cornwall, but we also have seniors support centres in Alexandria, Winchester, Lancaster, Finch and Ingleside that are always looking for volunteers in all of the communities we serve.

  • What is the process for becoming a volunteer at Carefor?

Complete an application form, an initial interview, followed by reference checks, Vulnerable Sector Check, and request for driver’s abstract (only for volunteer drivers). This is then followed up with orientation and training, as well as ongoing support and recognition for your efforts within the organization.

  • Is a Vulnerable Sector Check required?

    Yes, unless candidates are:

    • Under 18 years of age
    • Working administratively
    • Not working with clients
  • Do I require a COVID vaccine to volunteer with Carefor?

At this current time, Carefor has mandated that all staff and volunteers are required to provide proof of two (2) COVID vaccinations or proof of exemption.

  • Are there volunteer opportunities for high school students?

Yes. Students can help with special events, fundraising and administrative work during school breaks. If requested, Carefor is happy to sign for student volunteer hours.

  • What happens when you become a Carefor volunteer?

    We will:

    • Match your strengths, interests and available time to a volunteer role that’s right for you.
    • Give you a clear picture of the position requirements and the training to do it well.
    • Support you in your volunteer role through regular contact.
    • Provide training opportunities to assist you in your role.
    • Recognize your contributions in a meaningful way.
